DIY Aquarium Siphon

Making your own aquarium siphon for cleaning your tank is one of the simplest projects out there. In theory, all you need is a tube but we decided to re-create a siphon as close to the ones commercially available. We use a water bottle, some tubing, a few hose connectors and a ball valve to make a DIY aquarium siphon that works just as well as one you would buy for 20+ dollars at the aquarium store.

You also get the benefit of making the siphon tube as long as you need. This is a huge plus and is why we made this one in the first place. This siphon design allows you to clean your aquarium with ease, the end of the bottle is strong enough to function as a gravel vacuum allowing you to effectively clean your aquarium gravel or sand. The ball valve enables you to start and stop the siphon without having to re-apply suction with your mouth, something that all beginning aquarium keeps hate to do. Overall, this DIY aquarium Siphon is cheap, reliable and easy to use.
